Holdenhurst Bridge

HOLDENHURST BRIDGE sits on the A338, the main route into Bournemouth. RHINOCEROS started refurbishment works in on April 8th, to include removal of accumulated moss and grime, Surface preparation by mechanical abrading to St3, installation of a galvanised steel cycle ramp to comply with recent EU requirements, and the installation of a large "Welcome to Bournemouth' sign.

Coating of the bridge includes Interplus 256 Alumunium to 125µ, a full coat of Interplus 770 Intermediate coat for item 116 to 100µ, and finishing with Interthane 870 to 50µ as item 168 in BS 08C31 for the structure and black for parapets and handrails.

The Bridge connects local housing estates with the local superstore and Bournemouth hospital. It was built to replace a light controlled crossing taking cattle and sheep from nearby farms to a dip, but now serves pedestrian traffic.

The contract manager Bill Prendergast is using this project to get some of our younger staff trained on the ICATS industrial painting programme. This is an industry wide initiative of which Rhinoceros is a founding sponsor to improve and streamline training of people working in surface preparation and painting of highway structures.
